World's biggest sacrifice of animals for pleasing god has begun in a village near the Indian Border in Nepal.According to various media reports more than 5000 buffaloes have been slaughtered part of thousands of animals like pigs,rats,goats etc.Devotees have started slaughtering animals apart from the protest by various activist groups and animal rights activists.People are found worshiping in order to please goddess Gadhimai , spending days sleeping in the open and offering prayers.About 1,200 police personnel have been deployed and the whole area is under tight security. Even alcohol has been banned because of security issues.

Last year around 300000 animals were slaughtered making it the world's biggest sacrifice of animals . The festival leaves a pool of blood in that area. With the smell of fresh meat all around the officials dump the buffaloes in a big pit near the place quite close to the sacrifice place. The meat of goat and chicken is distributed to the devotes and people are found bidding for the flesh of buffaloes and other animals.According to various stories the sacrifice begun when Gadhimai appeared in the dreams of a prisoner where she asked him to establish a temple for her, the prisoner in return sacrificed animals to please thegoddess.The tradition has got worldwide attention even British actress Joanna Lumley and French actress Brigitte Bardot also petitioned the Nepali president stating the sacrifice  a "Cruel tradition"
